Map of nadder valleyStraddling the Cranborne Chase Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, the Nadder Valley stretches from Wilton in Wiltshire to the east across to Shaftesbury, Dorset in the west. It is a beautiful and largely undiscovered area with over 30 picturesque villages along the River Nadder. Tisbury, the largest of the villages, offers a friendly and thriving High Street as well as a convenient railway with direct London links for visitors.

The Nadder Valley offers fantastic walking country and great cycling opportunities. Our specially designed walking and cycling routes will take you on a real journey of discovery. Trails range from the challenging, along chalk ridges with stunning views across the downs, to short leisurely strolls around several historic villages such as East Knoyle; birthplace to Sir Christopher Wren the famous architect whose masterpiece was St. Paul’s Cathedral in London.

All routes include annotated OS maps with instructions and points of interest that promote the history, culture and wildlife of the area. Visitors will experience stunning views, the tranquillity of the chalk downs, historic estates and the picturesque historic villages built of traditional Chilmark stone and thatch. With numerous ancient churches, Iron Age Hill Forts and ancient burial grounds, as well as attractions such as Old Wardour Castle, this remains one of the South West’s best kept secrets.
